Learn to drive in this beautiful valley and explore tiny farming villages and remote Temples
A real adventure as you camp in a remote Hill Tribe village and learn all about life in the mountains
Trek through the forest, enjoy towering waterfalls, rice terraces and explore Hill Tribe villages
We’ll pick you up at 8:00am from the CHIANG MAI GATE HOTEL in Chiang Mai city and transfer you to our training base in the lovely Mae Wang valley around 1 hour from the city.
On arrival at our ‘base camp’ we’ll introduce you immediately to your Tuk Tuk and get started with your driver training. This takes place ‘off road’ and is a detailed session giving everyone the time to get used to the Tuk Tuks and their controls.
We then head off down winding rural lanes through small farming communities and to a remote Temple where we’ll receive a blessing for the adventure ahead.
After a simple, hearty local Thai lunch we then head along small roads up into the mountains towards our overnight destination of a remote Karen Hill Tribe village. We’re camping here tonight in the fields (don’t worry – there are showers and toilets available) to get a real ‘Hill Tribe’ experience.
In the evening we’ll learn how to cook ‘jungle style’ with an open fire before spending the night under the stars – a proper Thai adventure!
After breakfast we’ll explore the local area around the village before getting back into the Tuk Tuks and heading further into the foothills of Doi Inthanon, Thailand’s highest mountain. With plenty of stops to explore, this is an incredible journey through spectacular mountain scenery.
We’ll stop for a late lunch at a small roadside restaurant and then head on to the community of Ban Mae Khlang Luang, our overnight base.
The accommodation is surrounded by mountains and rice terraces and is the perfect setting for the second night of the adventure. After checking there’s time to explore the village, see how the community and get to sample some of the freshest coffee around!
In the evening we’ll have a traditional Thai style BBQ in the rice fields.
We head off this morning to explore the local forests. The trek is ‘only’ around 5-6 km but takes us through fantastic scenery and eventually to a series of stunning waterfalls. We’ll have lunch in the forest and there’s also time to swim if you wish.
After lunch we trek out of the forest and back to the village. It’s then time to say goodbye to your trusty Tuk Tuk and head back to Chiang Mai city by private minivan. We’ll arrive back at Chiang Mai Gate Hotel around 4:30pm
This trip really is for everyone, well nearly! If you’re 18 and above and have a manual driving license then you’ll be able to drive your very own Tuk Tuk. Not 18 or don’t want to drive? Don’t worry, you can still have an amazing adventure with The Tuk Tuk Club enjoying nature’s air-conditioning in the back seat. The driving is shared so if you don’t want to actually drive, don’t worry, you can sit back and relax. We also ask that all travellers come armed with a healthy sense of adventure and a desire to see the ‘real’ Thailand
The 3 Day Tuk Tuk and Hill Tribe Adventure runs twice a month – so if you’re planning to head to Chiang Mai or are already nearby, there’s a great adventure waiting for you.
Groups are limited to a maximum of 9 people – a minimum of 2 people are needed for the adventure to run
